Food terminal

The port of Sète has a division comprising all activities related to traffic of food bulk. Industrial operators and trading companies in the sector:

• Production of vegetable oils,
• manufacture of biofuels,
• manufacture of raw materials for animal feed

Grouping themselves at the East of the Port , the Factories Saipol and Grains Centre pooled their means of storage, maintenance, procurement and shipping of food products. Responding to the demands of:

• increase in grain flow generated by the Diester activity
• Development of the flow by river of cereal, grains and Tourteaux crabs,
• Growth in exports of cereals and Tourteaux crabs

Infrastructures of the food sector

• a flat hangar with a capacity of 17,000 t (oleaginous seeds, tourteaux(crab))
• conveyor belts allowing silage 600t / h (recovery bulldozer)
• a concrete silo with a capacity of 33,000 t storage, filed by trains, trucks and barges
• a flat silo storage capacity of 17 000 t,
• A truck receiving pit 400 t / hour, with a weighbridge 50 tons,
• a train reception pit 600 t / hour
• a shipping plug with a circuit to 400 t / h with a weighbridge 50 tons. and unloading, as well as Saipol plant.

New facilities, including the extension of the quay J of 150 m, allowed the creation of two new positions: a sea position on the west side and a river position on the east face. This work also optimised the flow management for loading and unloading. This new dock can accommodate on its three positions, simultaneously ships or barges loading or unloading:

• Saipol station for loading  ships with Touteaux(crab) 200 t / h and unload barges with grains 100 t / h,
• a loading station Centre Grains  in 800t / h for loading ships grain and tourteaux for export for ships of up to 25,000 tons and 10.5 m draft,
• a barge unloading station equipped with a suction capacity of 400 tons / hour. It can also operate river-sea vessels up to 3000 tons and 5.5m draft.

Relying on a strong agricultural hinterland capacity, agricultural and agro-industrial sectors benefiting from the economic importance of a European referencing and support of industrial operators and trading companies. (See section "The hinterland")
